30-Day Project | Day 9 | Bored on the Bus

30-Day Project | Day 9 | Bored on the Bus

I had a 30-minute bus ride and was a little bored.  I tried to see what I could capture through the front bus window shooting from the hip.  This was the best one I got.

30-Day Project | Day 8 | Legs

30-Day Project | Day 8 | Legs

I was bored while Chelsea was shopping, so I found it a good time to try and make a picture for today’s 30-Day Project posting…

30-Day Project | Day 7 | Layers of Stares

30-Day Project | Day 7 | Layers of Stares

Sometimes it is just impossible to be inconspicuous… Like when you are on a train full of bored people…

30-Day Project | Day 6 | Flying Away

30-Day Project | Day 6 | Flying Away

Today was my last day in Laverton for the week… flying back to Perth tomorrow for a bit.  It has been a good week, I met lots of people, and I am looking forward to returning here in a week and a half to continue my project (and hopefully actually getting a start on the […]

30-Day Project | Day 5 | Gateway to Alice Springs

30-Day Project | Day 5 | Gateway to Alice Springs

Although I met with a lot of people today, I didn’t take a lot of photos. As I was walking around town this evening, I passed by this old building around sunset. It advertises Laverton as the “Gateway to Alice Springs.”

30-Day Project | Days 3 & 4 | Outback Golf & Sunrises

30-Day Project | Days 3 & 4 | Outback Golf & Sunrises

Since my goal in Laverton this week is to meet as many people as possible and get to know the town and its surroundings, I just had to wander over to the Laverton Golf Course when I saw it on Google Maps the other day.

30-Day Project | Day 2 | Milky Way Over Laverton

30-Day Project | Day 2 | Milky Way Over Laverton

One of the great things about being in the Australian Outback is the view of the night sky. There are very few places I have been in the world where I was able to see the full Milky Way from horizon to horizon. With so little light pollution, the views of the stars are uninterrupted.

30 Day Project | Day 1 | Outback

30 Day Project | Day 1 | Outback

I have decided that I haven’t been taking enough pictures since I arrived in Australia. Maybe I can blame it on the stress of finding an apartment, perhaps blame it on the fact that there were too many errands to run. But really, there isn’t an excuse for it. So, I am going to start a 30-day project in which I set out to make at least one picture a day for the next 30 days

Aussie Land

Aussie Land

Well, Chelsea and I finally made it to Australia this past Thursday.

Hollywood!

Hollywood!

Before leaving L.A. we all went to see a concert at the Hollywood Bowl. That night, the Buena Vista Social Club and Goldfrapp were playing. I’m not a big fan of Goldfrapp but Buena Vista Social Club was amazing and I think any concert at the Hollywood Bowl is fun to go to.

Venice Beach Is… Interesting…

Venice Beach Is... Interesting...

My last post was color overload, so I will go ahead and make this post black and white. The POYi crew stopped by Venice Beach on Saturday and it is definitely one of the best people watching places I have ever visited.

Lights of Santa Monica Pier

Lights of Santa Monica Pier

I have been in LA for the last week for the Pictures of the Year International awards ceremony.  Our first night, we went to the Santa Monica Pier at night.  It’s pretty colorful…

Cooler Places

Cooler Places

After endless trips running up and down the stairs today while trying to move out of my apartment, the Missouri summer heat and humidity did me in.  So, I made my mind go to a much cooler place.  While backing up my computer, I went back through my Germany photos from my trip this past […]

99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall…

99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall...

Now that I am moving to Australia, I have to give up my beer bottle collection. So, to remember it all, I made a scrollable, 18-picture panorama of all the bottles.

Washington D.C. – No Monuments, I Promise

Washington D.C. - No Monuments, I Promise

A couple of pictures from my week-long trip to Washington D.C. I promise– no pictures of monuments…

Final Project: AIDS in the Recession

Final Project: AIDS in the Recession

David Hubert and Mark Reed have been living with HIV/AIDS in St. Louis for over twenty years and have been partners for just as long. Diagnosed with AIDS in the 80’s– a time when the life expectancy for AIDS victims was about two years– David is now one of the longest living AIDS survivors in St. Louis.

Final Project Preview

Final Project Preview

I have been very bad about updating my blog this semester… But, between completely redesigning this website and shooting longer-term projects, I have been fairly busy.  I also don’t want to post too many images from a story before it is officially completed.  But, here is a little preview of my final project for my […]

Video Job Profile: Sea Lion Trainer

For my Picture Story & Photo Essay class, we had to do a video job profile on a job of our choosing.  I thought it would be fun to do it on a sea lion trainer at the Saint Louis Zoo. I worked at the Zoo for 4 summers as a tour guide on the […]

Spring Break through iPhone Polaroids

For some reason, I always forget that I have this cool little application on my iPhone called “Shake It Photo” .  Basically, it turns your iPhone’s camera into an old-school Polaroid-style camera and it only costs $0.99!  You take the photo like you normally would on your iPhone and the image is then cropped to […]

The Charitable Collector: Final Edit

This is my final edit for my character profile assignment in my Picture Story class.  I had other ideas for this assignment, but my main subject backed out at the last minute and send me scrambling for other story ideas.  I found Harry at the last minute and only had a day to photograph him.  […]

The Charitable Collector

One of the pictures from my character profile assignment.  More to come tomorrow… Too tired to post more…

4 Peaks in 5 Days

I haven’t posted too much lately mainly because the photo class I am taking this semester requires more long-term stories.  And, POYi judging has just ended after 3 weeks. So, I am digging back into the archives and posting a couple of the panoramas I took while driving home from Reno this summer.  In 5 […]

POYi Judging Deja Vu

It is that time of year again… time for the Pictures of the Year International (POYi) judging.  Once again, I am a coordinator for the contest and I will be spending the next three weeks in a very dark room watching some of the best photos in the world flash before my eyes.  This year, […]

New Website

Last semester, I built a new website for myself in my Electronic Photo J class and I finally decided to make the link live.  I have been using livebooks.edu for my portfolio, but that costs about $100 a year.  I figure I can use that money for other purposes and this new website was a […]
